The Apple Basket

Don't you love holidays? I work at a school so have the school holidays off too, it's been good doing anything I want, last week and this week. Today I went to 'The Apple Basket' a patchwork shop in Kaiwaka about 45 minutes south of Whangarei. Usually when I'm going through Kaiwaka, I'm in a hurry to get to Auckland or Hamilton. It's the same for my friend Fiona so we decided to make a special trip today. I took a few photos to share with you all.

The Apple Basket moved into this house earlier this year, more room & parking, and a large deck out the back to sit and enjoy a cuppa. Yes those are real quilts over the veranda!

It's lovely exploring the different rooms, and I enjoyed looking at all the little treasures of buttons and charms, and of course the fabric.

There was an amazing machine embroidered quilt on display too. I took a photo of my favorite block, of thistle flowers.

And this is what I bought, some silk ribbon. I was really pleased to find it, as I have looked all over Whangarei and not found any.

  1. Oh, we drove past the Apple Basket when we were in NZ earlier this year and a group of ladies were sitting on the verandah there stitching and chatting and it looked idyllic. Sadly didn't have time to stop - but will put it on my "to do" list for our next trip.

  2. I just love visiting new quilt shops, so it is just as nice to read about those out of our area. Who knows, we just might be travelling past one day in our caravan. Thanks for the card you sent me in the mail, Leeann.
