My New Sewezi Table

This is what my quilt 'Blue Hawaii' (see below) has transformed into! A Sewezi table.
(And for clarities sake thats a charity quilt being worked on the Sewezi table & they are Fiona's fingers & feet in photo! Sorry for confusing some of you.)
I really love this little table, I should have bought one years ago when they first came out. Catherine Davies-Colley (Sewezi designer) actually designed these tables so you don't get neck and shoulder pain and they really work, I haven't had any neck pain since. (Unless you count the husband! Lets see if he reads that.)

This is 'Blue Hawaii' the UFO quilt I blogged about finishing. I wasn't sure what to do with it, so I decided to try & sell it at our Quilt Show. I was pleasantly surprised that someone loved it enough to buy it. The lady who bought it came back a second day to the show with curtain fabric, to make sure the colours were right for her daughters (or granddaughters?) room. So I think it's gone to a good home.

The other day one of the online quilt lists I belong to, were talking about quilt tee-shirts. There was a link to a online tee-shirt shop  cafepress. Go and have a look there's some really funny ones. Below are a couple that I liked.

 

Mid Winter Arts Festival

A bit of a non-quiltly post but there is some fibre in it!

This is the frog I bought on Saturday at the Mid Winter Arts Festival here in Whangarei. I think it looks like he is doing a 'Night Fever' dance ala John Travolta.

There were a lot of different demo's and activities going on at the festival, I took a few photo's to share.

This little old man's made from felt, using a dry needle felting technique.

The lady here in the purple was teaching how to make a felt 'face'. There were several kids having a go & adults too. 

Here is one face coming to life.

Here a local Buddhist monk is showing children how he fills his chak-pur (a traditional metal funnel that dispenses the sand). The pictures on the wall behind him are made from coloured sand. You can see on the table where people have had a go drawing with sand. These little girls are going to have a go in a minute. It looked quite hard to get even lines. You gently tap, or run a metal rod over the chak-pur to slowly release the sand. 

There were several boards set up for Graffiti Artists to paint, was interesting to see the layering of paint in some areas to build up colour. 

And of course there was music! There was heaps more, a poetry competition, portrait painting, pottery demo, hand made glass items, photography competition, food from different cultures, and lots to buy as well. 

Challenge Quilts

The Challenge for the Quilt Show was to make a small wall hanging inspired from a Fairy Tale or Nursery Rhyme. I haven't shown you all of the Challenge entries so thought I would today. As before I haven't reduced them much so you can click on them to see the details. (The quotes are from each quilt's label, written by the quilter.)

'Hickory Dickory Dock, the mice ran up the clock.' by Marilyn Galley Lees. Won 1st place Gold Section. "My own amendment & interpretation of the first and best known verse of this rhyme."

'The Pied Piper of Hamelin' By Shirley Julian. Won 2nd place Gold Section. "This was created from my own drawings. My inspiration came from a very small embroidery and my love of the poem as a child."

'The Little Mermaid' by Jules Smith. Won 1st place Silver Section

'Once I saw a little Bird' by Lynne O'Donnell. "Taken from a photo of my 2yr old grand daughter Stella & Tui the dog."
