There were heaps of inspiring quilts at Syposium, here are a few that grabbed my attention.

Every piece of 'window glass' a great memory.

Conquering Christchurch by Sophie Wood.

Somehow I forgot to take a photo of the label, oops. 'Conquering' is an interesting word to use, in the media the softer word- rebuild is usually used.

Sorry for the bad photos of this quilt but it was amazing so I didn't want to leave it out.

Loved the use of different size blocks & modern fabrics to jazz up this traditional block design into a modern quilt.

From the tutors exhibit, I liked a lot about this quilt. The big stitch quilting, the large simple shapes of the flowers/leaves, and the different pink background fabrics.

The quilting was just so good on this quilt, it really made it something special.

Which block do you see first?
I saw the 'Drunkards Path', but most friends I asked, see the 'New York Beauty' first.

UPDATED- have just found out another of Mathea Daunheimer's works 'Fragility, Kina at Rangiputa' won the Viewers Choice Award.
Use this link to pop over to "All of Me" -blog to see some great detail photos of Mathea's winning quilt

Mathea used to be a member of Whangarei P & Q Club when she lived in Whangarei. She is a lovely person and so talented. Congratulations Mathea!

This was a very popular quilt and I think it would have received a lot of votes for viewers choice.

Loved the use of 'word' fabrics in the background. Takes me back a few years to happy days at Play Centre with my boys.

All the colour was stitched or couched. Reminded me of string pictures from my childhood.

  1. That's a great selection and it's nice to view them through someone else's eyes and read what they had to say about them. Mathea was blown away by her win!

And I like the Hoffman fabric in your newer post too - new and interesting for sure. Good to hear it's sold out.

  2. As in, not good that it's sold out but good that there is so much interest shown!
