It's taken a while, but I've been dealing with tradesmen lately. Why does Murphy's Law always apply when I have one?? SO many little muck ups... anyway here is the Show n Tell from our last meeting.
'Corner Stones & Chimneys' by Lyn Madden.
Made by Helen Barrow with 5 inch squares she bought years ago in Hawaii. It will be raffled for her Mother's Rest Home.
Blocks made by Lyn Madden and put together by Kay Watson. This quilt is going to the Kamo Home for their daycare residents.
These are Fidget Quilts made for Alzheimer Patients by Lyn Madden.
Member Kim Cairns is a teacher and she has taught her class to knit. They are knitting squares which Kim has sewn together to make charity blankets. When they are finished the children will then decide which Charity to give the blankets to.
Table runner made by Terri Mills.
Made by Pat Woodman for her Grandso in Melbourne who is a keen AFL footy player.
'Pounamu' small wall hanging made by Terri Mills. Being sent to Seattle for an xmas gift.
Wall hanging made by Chris Cook for her Grand Daughters birthday on 25 November. Each square represents a day in the month of November.
Book cover made by Shirley Julian. It started as experiment to see how acrylic felt burnt.
Book cover made by Ross Baker, it started with a geli print fabric made in a class with Petra.
There were a few more items on display but I didn't manage to take photos of them all. If I missed yours, sorry. I better publish this now before the next meeting!

Marsden Material Girls
One of my favourite things at the Auckland Festival of quilts was this interactive display made by the Marsden Material Girls.
This photo of an derelict house was enlarged and sliced up into four sections. Enough slices were made to create five houses.
Each slice has velcro attached to their back and the public were invited to move the slices about to create new houses.

Guest Speaker John Nielsen- Longarm Quilter
At the last club meeting the guest speaker was John Nielsen. John is a local longarm quilter. He spoke about battings, and prep for your quilts when taking them to a quilter. He also bought some of his personal quilts to share.
Here's John as he started to speak, I love how he speaks with his hands.
One of Johns older quilts.
John says his quilts have become more simple in style now, the quilt above is made with a mixture whites and off white fabrics, which unfortunately is hard to pick up in this photograph.
A simple design with complex quilting. From memory I think John said the red fabric was a recycled tablecloth.
This also has beautiful quilting, but is hard to see in the photo.
Now on this one you CAN see the quilting. This is actually the back of the quilt, below is the front of the quilt. The thread was chosen to match the front fabric.
The patterned fabric in this quilt is a satin jacquard fabric. John used both sides of this fabric (the pale blue/grey is the back)
John's Disappearing Hourglass quilt, which he said was a lot of fun to make.
John explaining the process of making the Disappearing Hourglass Quilt.
If you would like to make your own Disappearing Hourglass Quilt below is a very good tutorial form The Missouri Star Quilt Company.

AFQ 2015 Part 5
Well it’s a rainy afternoon here so I thought I’d post some more from the Auckland Festival of Quilts.
I took 230 photos which I have culled, but still I think there will be one more post after this one! Anyway enjoy these, and hopefully there will be one more tomorrow, then Show n Tell from Saturday next.
