Congratulations to June Nixey, she has been awarded the Queens Service Medal, for her services to prisoner rehabilitation programmes.
For those who don’t know, June has been teaching quilting to prisoners for over 20 years. Here’s a link to a news story about her work earlier in the year.
If you would like to know more about her work at the prison, I also posted a link to an interview she did on National Radio earlier in the year.
June is a member of my previous club before I moved house, Pinestream Quilters, so I have have met up with her over quite a period of time. She was always so thrilled to bring in finished quilts from "her girls" to the club's Show and Tell. A very deserving (and modest) award winner who always credits her helpers and the quilters at large for donations of fabric, and more importantly, time. Congratulations June!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Leeann and Jenny - I feel something of a fraud being thanked for doing something I'm passionate about, but at least all the helpers know they are valued.
